| Title: |
Eschatology III - Audhu billahi! |
| Artist: |
Nasir Bilal
|
| Description: |
C minor allegory representing man's struggle against Satan's influence. For program notes, see info.
|
| Notes: |
#The piece opens with the Satan motive (C-Ab, B-G, Ab-E = three minor 6th leaps, the number of the Beast!). The Devil's got mankind by the scruff!
#Turning to God (1:34): A statement of the "Audhu billahi!" or "I seek the refuge of God..." motive (Eb-Ab-B = the opening pitches of my salaat). Man becomes conscious of his wretched state, and turns to God for refuge and guidance!
#Upon finding refuge through God's mercy, the believer enjoys a brief peace (2:27). However, he quickly grows complacent (2:59).
#The fall! (3:04) Plummeting back into the Hell of unconsciousness; Satan again draws the believer into confusion and misery!
#Lament (3:39): Recognition of the fall, and feelings of great shame and remorse. A very brief development of the two motives represents lessons learned.
#Commitment! (4:13) Never fail to pick yourself back up and rejoin the spiritual struggle. The narrative ends with the believer rejoining battle with his avowed enemy!
